If you are anxious about the dentist and do not dare to undergo a normal treatment, you can also choose to have the treatment performed under nitrous oxide sedation by our anxiety dentist.

How does nitrous oxide sedation work?

Pure oxygen is first administered via a nasal mask, and after a few minutes, increasing amounts of nitrous oxide are added step by step. After some time, this gives you a relaxed and pleasant feeling, allowing you to consciously experience the treatment but feel much more relaxed than when you are normally lying in the dentist's chair.

When does laughing gas wear off?

Nitrous oxide has hardly any pain-relieving effect, so an anesthetic is administered during treatment with nitrous oxide if necessary. The nitrous oxide wears off approximately 5 minutes after the treatment, and you can participate in traffic again after 15 minutes.

The aim is to accustom you to dental treatments in this way, so that eventually you can undergo dental treatment without nitrous oxide.

Who is laughing gas suitable for?

Nitrous oxide is suitable for anxious patients, children, people with an increased tendency to vomit, chest tightness (angina pectoris), and asthma. We may not administer nitrous oxide to patients without nasal breathing (for example, due to a cold), with pulmonary emphysema, pneumothorax, myocardial infarction less than a year ago, heart failure, MS, muscle weakness, FOB, depression, schizophrenia, younger than 4 years old, who are in the first trimester of pregnancy, with a desire to become pregnant, or a recent middle ear infection.

We also use nitrous oxide sedation after you have been treated under general anesthesia for the previous procedure and this is no longer necessary, so that you still do not need to fear it. The nitrous oxide then provides support as you get used to consciously experiencing the dental treatment.

Is a nitrous oxide treatment covered?

In most cases, insurance does not cover the costs of treatment involving the administration of nitrous oxide. In some cases, it is possible to apply to the health insurer for this. In that case, we can submit the application to the health insurer on your behalf. The health insurer then decides whether to approve this application.
