Prevention is better than cure

Prevention is better than cure. This also applies to the health of your mouth. Your dental hygienist plays an important role in this. We recommend that you visit the dental hygienist regularly.

The tasks performed by a dental hygienist are primarily aimed at preventing gum problems, caries (cavities in the teeth), and erosion (thinning of enamel due to acidic products). The tasks of the dental hygienist are not limited to providing information and teaching proper oral hygiene. Curative treatments such as removing plaque and tartar or treating gum inflammation are also part of the dental hygienist's duties.

Scientific research has shown that unhealthy teeth have a major impact on our well-being. In fact, unhealthy teeth can contribute to the development of many diseases or physical abnormalities. Examples include diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Complications during pregnancy can also worsen. Therefore, there are many reasons why your gums need to be well maintained.

Why visit the dental hygienist?

The dental hygienist resolves oral health problems that have arisen in patients. If your gums start bleeding while brushing your teeth or while eating, a visit to the dental hygienist is a good idea. This also applies if your teeth become loose or if you have bad breath.

Dental hygienist costs

In many cases, the costs of treatment by the dental hygienist are (partially) reimbursed by your health insurer, provided you have supplementary dental insurance.

Dental Center Netherlands (TCN) has dental practices throughout North Holland. Including in Alkmaar, To put away, Castricum, Haarlem, Heerhugowaard, Westzaan, Zaandam and Beaverwijk.

Airflow

TCN invests in the AIRFLOW® Prophylaxis Master. This modern equipment is available at all our locations. Thanks to this method, tartar removal is performed more comfortably and efficiently.

Whereas previously an ultrasonic device was primarily used, most tartar and plaque are now first removed with Airflow and an ultra-soft powder. This ensures a thorough cleaning and can reduce discoloration.

Next, any remaining tartar is removed using an ultrasonic device. This device works quickly and effectively and uses disinfected water at body temperature, which generally makes the treatment feel less uncomfortable.
