What is a dentist under general anesthesia?

A sedation dentist performs dental treatments while the patient is fully under sedation. This means that you sleep during the treatment and won't feel a thing. Our experienced anesthesiologists ensure that the sedation is administered safely and in a controlled manner.

How works An treatment under general anesthesia?

A treatment under general anesthesia proceeds in a number of steps:

  • Intake interview: We discuss your wishes and medical background, and create a treatment plan.
  • Preparation: You will receive instructions regarding food and drink before the treatment.
  • The treatment: An anesthesiologist administers general anesthesia, after which the dentist performs the treatment.
  • Recovery: Afterwards, you will wake up gently and remain under supervision for a short while.

So glad I took the step to come here. Received a clear estimate. You only pay the anesthesia costs in advance. Went in crying, but now I'm so happy!! Waiting for the frame to be ready and fit. Experienced tremendous understanding here!

I had my intake just recently and have a good feeling about it. I'm glad that sedation dentists like this one exist! I'm relieved of so much stress.

I am very happy that I took this step. They helped me wonderfully. During the intake, the anesthesia treatment, and the follow-up, they explained step by step what the procedure entailed. They are very understanding of the situation and take plenty of time for you! No question is too much.

Costs of a treatment under general anesthesia

The costs of an anesthetic treatment consist of two parts:

  • The dental treatment itself;
  • The costs for anesthesia, which depend on the duration of the treatment.

The costs for the various treatments are determined nationally every year by the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa). This means that all dental practices in the Netherlands with the same rates work.

What sets TCN apart is the anesthesia rate. This is the lowest rate in the entire Netherlands. Starting from €298,- You can be treated under general anesthesia with us per hour.

The total costs therefore depend on the type of treatment you require and the duration of the treatment under general anesthesia. Prior to your treatment, you will always receive a cost estimate so that you know exactly what to expect and can make an informed decision.

Is anesthesia covered by health insurance?

Dental treatment is only reimbursed if you are insured for it. Some treatments are covered as standard under the basic insurance, while for others you need supplementary insurance to be eligible for reimbursement.

Unfortunately, general anesthesia is not reimbursed. You will have to pay the costs yourself. These depend on the duration of the treatment.

For more information, we recommend that you consult your health insurer.
